the lux score explained
A veritable oasis of tranquility and beauty, this ravishing hotel embodies Italy at its best providing guests with hospitality, know-how, heritage as well as enlightened innovation. There is simply no Portofino without Belmond Hotel Splendido.
Location and Decor
Perched on a hill with unobstructed view of the Portofino Bay and the deep blue Ligurian sea, this stunning property was a Benedictine monastery in the 16th century.
Since 1902 it became a hotel that received a plethora of delighted guests from Elizabeth Taylor and Winston Churchill to Kate Moss and Madonna and, of course, thousands of discerning lux travellers.
Light coloured, generously sized and decorated with superb taste; most of the rooms and suites have private balconies and terraces offering breathtaking panoramas.
A study in elegance and sophistication perfect to unwind and enjoy precious moments with your loved ones.
Thoughtful, charming and beyond efficient; service is certainly one of the best out there perfectly combining Italian warmth and hospitality with steady professionalism and consistency.
During my repeated visits there nothing was ever a problem and needs were not simply satisfied but anticipated with nonchalance and charm that is typical of the pros.
A captivating waft of flowers coming from the lush, perfectly tended garden, the languid terrace housing both restaurant and bar, the salt water infinity pool, the effortless glamorous guests of all ages and nationalities not to mention the grand but still homey layout of the building that has been a private home in the 19th century. All is buoyant and wonderfully uncostrained at the Belmond Hotel Splendido.
An enormous strength of the Belmond Collection is the unexpected and memorable list of activities on offer and Splendido is definitely no exception thanks to the amazingly talented and charming PR Manager Nathalie Meyer. Its impressive range of “tailor -made” adventures go from scuba diving in an underwater garden to romantic (and champagne soaked) cruises on a boat and an outstanding new entry: a tour of the Cinque Terre visiting the wineries while exploring the beautiful area. A walk guided by the young winemaker Alessandro Crovara to discover what is usually knowledge of the few locals: panoramic views, fragrant wines almost impossible to find outside the Region and, of course, the mouthwatering focaccia.
From the awe inspiring cuisine of the extremely talented chef Corrado Corti, who proposes a very interesting approach to the classics at “La Terraza Restaurant”, to the amazing “Chuflay” on the iconic Piazzetta where chef Roberto Villa delights with his talent offering impeccable food. The gastronomic aspect is taken care of with knowledge, respect for the traditions and open eyes towards innovation. Both restaurants can pride themselves with a very charming and experienced staff.
-Enjoy one (or many!) of the tratments on offer at the spa.. from massages and pregnancy treatments to pampering for children, men and even dogs to be savoured indoor as well as in a very private corner of the garden using the all natural high end Casa Mei products.
– Not to be missed: pesto tasting experience at Chuflay with Chef Roberto Villa
-Enjoy breakfast with a view on your room terrace and at “LaTerrazza”
-Save some time from the lounging poolside and venture outside for one of the many excursions
-Refresh yourself with a wonderful Mojito Portofino: the signature drink on offer at the hotel that is an interesting twist on the classic mojito.
