NOOE Maldives Kunaavashi – Value and Style in the Vaavu Atoll

NOOE Maldives Kunaavashi sits in the tranquil Vaavu Atoll, where turquoise waters and pristine beaches create the perfect setting for a relaxed island escape. This isn’t one of the Maldives’ ultra-luxury addresses but rather a well-designed mid-range resort that balances comfort, atmosphere, and value. The island itself is small and pretty. Being far enough from Male it has hardly any neighbours and beautiful views over the turquoise Indian ocean as far as an eye can see.

For travellers who dream of over-water villas without the premium price tag, it offers a smart choice. Transfers are available by seaplane or speedboat, but they run on a fixed schedule, so it’s worth planning carefully to avoid a long wait at Malé airport. Check transfer times with the resort before booking your international flight.

Accommodation

NOOE offers over water villas and beach villas. Overwater villas are in clusters of two and offer a great option for families. Villas spread over two levels with master bedroom upstairs and spacious living room with a fold out sofa downstairs.

A stay in a water villa captures the essence of Maldivian living. Waking up to the sunrise shimmering across the lagoon was unforgettable, and having direct access to the ocean from my deck made every swim effortless. While the design is more pared-back compared to the very top resorts, it delivered everything I needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

The villa itself combined bright, simple interiors with a private plunge pool. Floating breakfast is a highlight, great photo opportunity for those who love to impress their friends on Instagram.

The best accommodation on the island is a two-bedroom over water villa and two-bedroom beach villa. There is only one of each so try to reserve them well in advance.

Dining

Dining at NOOE follows a relaxed rhythm. Lunch is usually served at the main restaurant, where a casual atmosphere makes it easy to enjoy simple, satisfying meals.

Dinner brings more variety: guests can choose teppanyaki, where chefs put on a lively show while preparing fresh dishes, or opt for the over-water seafood restaurant. For me, this was the most memorable dining experience—savouring grilled lobster while sting rays and reef sharks glided just beneath the deck created a setting I’ll never forget. While the culinary offering is not extensive, it balances variety and atmosphere in a way that suits the island’s easy going character.

Wellness & Facilities

NOOE doesn’t overwhelm guests with endless facilities, but what it does offer is thoughtfully done. The spa became a highlight of my stay, with excellent massages and facials at very reasonable prices—a welcome surprise in the Maldives. There are also options for water sports, snorkelling, diving, and excursions, along with a Kids Club for families. Kids loved jet skis adventures and younger ones enjoyed personalised art activities at the kids club.
