Set on a spectacular stretch of white-sand beach beneath the dramatic Le Morne Brabant, The St. Regis Le Morne enjoys one of the most impressive locations in Mauritius. With the mountain rising behind the resort and the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean stretching out in front, the setting is simply breathtaking.
We recently spent a few days here in a Junior Suite and loved the relaxed elegance of the resort. Beautiful beachfront living is complemented by excellent dining, indulgent breakfasts and some genuinely memorable experiences – from hiking Le Morne and swimming with dolphins to the St. Regis Champagne Ritual on the beach at sunset.
Location
The setting is exceptional. The resort stretches along a glorious sweep of white sand on the Le Morne Peninsula, backed by the UNESCO-listed Le Morne Brabant. There is an appealing sense of space and seclusion here, yet the location also gives guests access to some of Mauritius’ most memorable outdoor experiences.
One of our favourites was the complimentary guided hike up Le Morne. It is a wonderful way to experience the landscape beyond the beach and something we would highly recommend making time for during a stay.
Accommodation
We stayed in a Junior Suite, which perfectly suited the relaxed elegance of the resort. The interiors combine traditional Mauritian influences with the polished residential feel expected of St. Regis, while generous proportions and a private terrace make the suite particularly comfortable for a longer stay.
The resort is all-suite, with the signature St. Regis Butler Service adding another layer of personalised attention throughout the stay.
For the ultimate experience, the magnificent Grand Beachfront Villa is the resort’s showpiece: a four-bedroom private residence directly on the beach with its own heated infinity pool, expansive indoor and outdoor living areas, gym and sauna.
Dining
Dining was one of the highlights of our stay. Breakfast at Le Manoir is particularly impressive – luxurious, beautifully presented and sufficiently varied to turn breakfast into a leisurely occasion rather than simply the start of the day.
Our standout dinner was at INDYA, the resort’s contemporary Indian restaurant. This is not conventional resort Indian dining: the cuisine is creative, modern and beautifully presented, taking familiar Indian flavours in unexpected directions.
The wider collection includes Asian cuisine at Floating Market, Japanese dining and live teppanyaki at Atsuko, Mediterranean flavours beside the ocean at The Boathouse Beach Grill and French pastries and coffee at La Pâtisserie.
Experiences
St. Regis does ceremony particularly well, and one of our most memorable moments was participating in the signature Champagne Ritual at sunset. I was invited to sabre the champagne myself on the beach – a wonderfully theatrical experience with the sun disappearing over the Indian Ocean behind us. It was fun, glamorous and unmistakably St. Regis.
We also booked a dolphin excursion at an additional cost, and it proved to be one of the highlights of our entire Mauritius trip. Swimming alongside dolphins in the clear waters off the coast was an extraordinary experience and one we would wholeheartedly recommend.
Spa & Wellness
The St. Regis Spa by La Prairie is another reason to linger. Spanning more than 2,000 square metres, the spa has 12 treatment rooms and combines St. Regis rituals with La Prairie’s renowned Swiss skincare expertise. For active guests, there is also a great fitness centre and an excellent choice of water and outdoor activities.
The Lux Traveller Loves
The extraordinary beachfront position beneath Le Morne; the complimentary guided mountain hike; long, indulgent breakfasts at Le Manoir; outstanding modern Indian cuisine at INDYA; swimming with dolphins; and, above all, sabring champagne barefoot on the beach as the sun sets over Mauritius.
Splitting Hairs
The resort is wonderfully secluded, which is very much part of its appeal, although guests planning to explore extensively should bear in mind that Le Morne is some distance from other parts of the island. Our advice is not to over-schedule – this is a resort where the location itself is one of the main attractions.
All in All
The St. Regis Le Morne delivers Mauritius at its most cinematic: mountain, lagoon, white-sand beach and spectacular sunsets, wrapped in the polished service and rituals of St. Regis. What impressed us most was that the stay went well beyond simply enjoying a beautiful suite and beach. Hiking Le Morne, swimming with dolphins, discovering superb contemporary Indian cuisine and sabring champagne at sunset created genuine memories. For couples and families looking for sophisticated beachfront luxury with a strong sense of place, this is one of Mauritius’ standout addresses.
