Exploring Corfu with Grecotel

Island of Corfu is situated north of Athens in Greece. It is famous for its rugged nature with a lot of greenery, pretty beaches, welcoming Greek hospitality and rich history full of battles and conquests.

Corfu is only a short flight away from Athens or a direct flight from many other European cities – Rome, Moscow, Frankfurt. It is popular amongst Russian, British and European travellers and rightly so – this beautiful island has a lot to offer.

Grecotel Group has three hotels on the island, each with a different flavor. Daphnila is a family resort with a kids club and a multitude of entertaining activities for the youngsters. Their sandy beach is very casual with a dedicated water sports centre. Try jet skiing, water skiing or wake boarding – the lagoon here is perfect for learners as the sea is normally very calm.

Daphnila has a gorgeous Greek Taverna on the beach, an atmospheric restaurant offering traditional Greek dishes meters away from the sea.

Despite being lovely, Daphnila is a four star option that is well suited for families. Couples might find the place overrun by children, so for them we suggest Eva Palace.

Eva Palace is a five star hotel standing proudly high on a hill above Ionian Sea with beautiful views from both wings. Eva Palace offers rooms and suites but we would recommend gorgeous pool villas, perfect for a romantic couple of a small family. Villas are very spacious and designed in a traditional style with terracotta floors, embroidered bed coverlets, comfortable sitting area, outdoor terrace with deck chairs and a glorious private swimming pool.

The villas are so inviting that guests can choose to spend a day lazing on their private terrace under the sun and swimming in their private pool. But if you choose to leave your private paradise there is a lot to do.

Have a swim at the beach, explore nearby sister hotels, try a relaxation treatment at the spa or venture out to explore the island. Old Corfu town is fantastic with no cars and a multitude of authentic shops, cafes and restaurants in the little quaint alleys. A taxi to town is easy to arrange – hotel will look after it for you and the cost is €20.00-25.00 each way.

Third sister hotel is The Imperial – the most luxurious out of the three, offering guests an all-inclusive program. I am often weary of ‘all inclusive’ plans but The Imperial does it really well. Their buffet restaurant is excellent and a’la carte restaurants will impress even the fussiest of gourmands.

We loved the French Aristos– a fine dining establishment named after Aristotle Onassis; the restaurant features an excellent wine list, romantic setting and beautiful views.

For lunch we couldn’t go past Yali Seafood, a traditional Greek restaurant suspended on a jetty above the sea serving the freshest seafood and Greek delicacies. I would’ve been happy to dine there every day. What could be better than a refreshing Greek salad with tzatziki and grilled calamari after a morning of sunbaking and swimming in the sea.

In the evenings the guests get dressed up. so the atmosphere is very elegant. On most nights there is light entertainment on the pool terrace. Many guests are staying in the hotel for a long time and make friends with other couples and families, so the atmosphere is friendly and inviting.

The Imperial beach is the prettiest out of the three, well equipped with comfortable deck chairs, umbrellas and showers. The hotel itself is well suited to both couples and families and I would recommend it as my favourite option on Corfu for The Lux Travellers. All inclusive plan is fabulous too.

In terms of accommodation The Imperial offers rooms, suites and villas. Two story villas are perfect for families and come with a private swimming area. Deck chairs are set up on the rocks over the sea creating your private swimming paradise. Take a few steps in the water and you are enjoying the pristine blue in complete privacy.

All In All

Great Grecotel complex on the beautiful island. It was my first time to Corfu and it won’t be my last. Loved the experience and highly recommend the all inclusive experience at The Imperial. Another luxurious option is to stay at the Eva Palace pool villas with access to The Imperial facilities – their breakfast, beach and gym are superior.
