Fushifaru is a picture perfect little island in the Indian Ocean. And I mean that quite literally – it’s impossible to take a bad picture here. White sand, turquoise crystal clear water, swaying palm trees and brand new overwater villas make Fushifaru a lovers paradise.
Couples love spending time in their villas, and brand new pool villas, completed at the end of 2020, couldn’t be more perfect. Sunbake on the deck of your sumptuous villa, cool off in a private pool or dive into the blue off your deck. Privacy is essential in the Maldives and if you prefer to be left alone, you will be disturbed only by the sound of crashing waves.
Despite the romantic nature of the island, families are not forgotten on here. Quite the opposite, they are very welcome and kids are well looked after here. Youngsters can spend hours playing on the beach, swimming in a beautiful resort infinity pool or take part in the water sports.
Getting To Fushifaru
Fushifaru is located at Lhaviyani atoll, a 35-minute scenic seaplane flight from the capital Male. Transfer from the airport to a seaplane terminal is seamless and most often seaplane departures are timed to match the international arrivals, so guests don’t have a long wait time. Keep in mind that seaplanes operate only during day time (so your international flight should arrive between 6.00am-3.45pm).
Arrival
Every arrival is treated as a VIP at Fushifaru. Maldivians are very warm people and will make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. As you walk off the plane you’ll be offered a refreshment and taken straight to your villa for check in.
Accommodation
Guests can choose from Beach Villas, Beach Villas With Pool, Overwater Villas With Jacuzzi or Overwater Pool Villas. All villas are beautiful and your choice will be determined by personal preference and budget. You can’t go wrong, no matter which option you choose. Villas start from generous 96 sq meters in size and go up 122 sq meters. All can accommodate two adults and a child.
Bigger families can reserve a Duplex Beach Villa, effectively a beach villa and a pool beach villa joined together. It can accommodation six adults or four adults plus four children. Excellent choice for generational traveller.
While all accommodation is beautiful my personal choice is overwater villa with pool, simply because it is brand new, completed in 2020, and unique. Where else in the world could you wake up to a view of uninterrupted ocean blue and start your day with a swim off your deck instead of a shower.
Dining
Fushifaru boasts a few dining options to make sure guests staying longer don’t get bored with the choices.
Main restaurant Korakali serves breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet style. It’s a family-friendly dining option where you can enjoy yummy food with your feet in the sand. In fact, Fushifaru is a bare foot luxury island, shoes are literally not required at any time of the day. So leave your high heels at home and get close to nature. Your feet will say ‘thank you’.
Pool bar is an excellent place for a casual lunch, complimented with a fresh coconut.
For a fancy dinner head to Teppanyaki and allow the chef to cook up a storm in front of you. Or, for a romantic evening at the water’s edge, enjoy a candle-lit dinner at Raakani. Grilled Maldivian lobster is a must try here.
Entertainment
Fushifaru is a quiet, romantic island, but they do know that atmosphere is important. You might find a live saxophone player at sunset by the pool or a local band playing popular dance tunes on a Friday night at the bar.
Facilities
At Fushifaru you can choose to do a lot or very little.
There is a variety of excursions to be enjoyed every day – snorkelling trips to the nearby reefs, dolphin watching, turtle safaris and of course diving. PADI team is excellent and can take you on daily dives or get you fully certified during your holiday.
Spa lovers will delight in Heylhi Spa – a heaven inside the heaven, if that’s even possible. I love the set up of the spa – a peaceful, green sanctuary in the middle of island. Each treatment room is set up in a private pavilion and couples can enjoy before and after time together in privacy. The massages are divine and all products used in the spahave organic and natural ingredients.
The Lux Traveller Loves
I love the natural beauty of the island – it keeps me coming back to the island time and time again. I took more stunning photos at Fushifaru than at any other island in the Maldives.
People also make a difference and their warm, attentive service made a big difference to my stay.
Splitting Hairs
Fushifaru doesn’t have a natural reef, so if you are after snorkelling experiences, you’ll need to book a lot of snorkelling trips during your stay which will add to the overall cost.
All In All
Wonderful island, warm service, family friendly, amazing water villas, nice beach and beautiful pool. We will be back.
