Hyatt Regency Phuket – Hillside Hideaway Overlooking Kamala Bay

Hyatt Regency is located near Kamala Beach on Phuket’s Golden Mile, one of the most prestigious parts of the island. Journey from the airport takes around 40 minutes. We recommend using a hotel transfer service, as airport taxi experience could be a little bothersome for the first-time visitors.

Hotel boasts an elevated position on a steep hill that ensures spectacular views towards the Andaman Sea.

We loved the warm welcome to the hotel with a yummy iced drink and a cool scented towel at the lounge during check-in.

Accommodation

Hyatt Regency offers many types of rooms and suites. We stayed in a Hilltop Regency Suite – a romantic sanctuary in the most elevated and private section of the hotel. This spacious one-bedroom suite has incredible views from every window, large private terrace, living room comfortable enough for a long stay and a bedroom with a welcoming king bed. I love Thai decorations on the bed with little elephants made from towels and flower arrangements to let you know that you’ll be well taken care of.

Even the bathroom has a large window and a pretty view – it might be enough to convert you from a shower person to a bath person, at least for the time you are staying here.

Facilities

Hyatt Regency is famous in Phuket for the largest resort swimming pool on the island. Many guests enjoy lazy days by the pool, soaking up the sun and enjoying poolside service in a private cabana. Others venture out to the beach. Hotel doesn’t have a private beach, but Kamala is within walking distance, about 20 min away from the hotel.  If you are looking for a fancy setting, Café Del Mar beach club has just opened on Kamala Beach and offers a complimentary shuttle service to pick you up.

Gym & Fitness

For fitness conscious there is a large gym with complimentary classes throughout the day. Start your day early with a 7am bootcamp or stretch out with an afternoon yoga class.

Nahm Spa

Nahm Spa is open from early morning till 10pm and offers beautiful massages, scrubs and facials. The spa is well priced and I would recommend their signature Salt Glow Treatment. It’s a long stroke, oil massage with hot pink salt used for deep muscle relaxation. I tried it on one evening just before bed and slept like an angel all night. In fact, I started napping during the treatment, which is always a good sign.

Dining

There are two restaurants in Hyatt Regency – all day Pool House and dinner-only Sunset Grill.

Lazy long breakfasts at Pool House were our favourite – served on a shady outdoor terrace from 6-10.30am. Buffet offers all the usual fruit, cereal and hot dishes you’d expect at a five star hotel and waiters are happy to fulfill your special requests like a plate of mango or an iced latte.

Lunch can be served poolside or on Sundays, during the high season, a fantastic brunch is served with many live cooking stations and lively atmosphere. Phuket locals love to brunch, so you’ll rub shoulders not only with your fellow hotel guests, but also with the local expats.

For dinner hotels tries to mix up experiences with themed buffet dinners. It could be an Italian night on Mondays and a Thai night on Wednesday.

Steak house Sunset Grill offers a selection of meats flown from Australia and New Zealand. If you’d like to try a little bit of everything, chef offers a degustation menu, paired with wines. Location of the restaurant is spectacular, on top of the resort, and I’d suggest an early dinner so you could catch a spectacular sunset that Phuket is so famous for.

Club Lounge

Club deserves a special mention – it is a stunning space with it’s own swimming pool, relaxation area and shaded terrace. Breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails and canapés are served daily and The Club is especially popular at sunset. It is a favourite time for the guests to get together here for a glass of sparkling wine and a selfie with a spectacular view as a backdrop.

The Lux Traveller Loves

Great quality-price ratio. The hotel isn’t over the top pricey, yet offers great suites, excellent facilities and welcoming service.

Huge pool – perfect for family fun times. Pool toys and fancy mattresses are available at an extra charge.

Romantic suites for couples and spacious two-bedroom suites for families.

Free fitness classes

Splitting Hairs

Hyatt isn’t a beachfront hotel; if being right on the beach is important to you, this might not be the best choice. If relaxing poolside is more you – Hyatt is a great option.

Dining at the hotel might get a little repetitive, but there are a lot of local restaurants within 10-15 minute walk, so guests who love to explore local scene wont’ be disappointed.

All In All

Hyatt Regency is a versatile resort that works well for both couples and families. Romantics can enjoy privacy in the suite, on the Club terrace or in the spa, while families are guaranteed to enjoy the swimming pool and kids club entertainment.

There are a lot of cabanas and deck chairs by the pool, so even during the peak season the resort doesn’t feel crowded.
