Mango House has opened its doors only a year ago and has already made a huge difference to the Seychelles hospitality scene. Mango House has set new standards in the luxury space for dining experiences, service and accommodation.
Arrival and Location
Mango House is located on the pristine North side of Mahe island, easily reachable by a taxi from the international airport. Hotel driver will collect you at the airport and bring you to the front door of your villa in about 30-40 minutes.
Mango House location is stunning – it sits high up, overlooking two of the neighbouring bays.
Concept & Club House
I love the concept of the hotel – Mango House was an original house owned y a French photographer …. Who fell in love with Seychelles many years ago and built a home here. The hotel has acquired the house from him and converted the main house into a club lounge – a place guests could feel like at home.
The club house, completely renovated, goes without saying, sprawls over three levels and has breathtaking views from every room. You walk into a library on the middle floor, a modern, bright room with high ceilings decorated just like a nice home would be with rugs, artwork, flowers and books. From here you would find your way to the swimming pool with plush deck chairs and beach below or go upstairs to a spa and gym.
All dining venues are here too – superb Italian restaurant, elegant Japanese or local Creole. Without any exaggeration Mango House has the best dining in Seychelles. Fine dining isn’t very strong in Seychelles and many nice five-star resorts don’t have great food, Mango House is the exception.
Accommodation
The rooms and suites are located in various pavilions around the resort, in groups of three or four per block. Every building has a slightly different view ut all look out onto the ocean.
We had a pleasure of staying in one of the family suites 12 & 13, located upstairs, next to each other, and connected via an inter-connecting door and balcony. These suites are perfect for families travelling together as one room has a king bed and another two twins. The design of the rooms is stunning, all light wood and beachy colours. They are very spacious and the terrace is huge, offering oversized day beds and table settings. Four-poster beds are beautifully decorated with sheer white curtains around them for added romance and marble bathrooms are designed for two.
Another beautiful option is ground floor suite with a private pool. Other nice touches in the rooms – gorgeous hats and beach bags provided for the guests’ stay and complimentary mini bar on the first day. Bathrooms are stunning as well, with plenty of space and beach, warm design encompassing mosaic tiles and local wood.
Facilities
There are two swimming pools at the hotel – one next to the beach bar Soley and another in the Club House. The swimming pools are not huge, best suited for the adult travellers. The one in the Club House is in a stunning setting, very Instagramable.
The spa offers beautiful massages – how could you resist it when it comes with this view!
Dining
A day starts with a gorgeous a la carte breakfast served at Muse. Choose your table inside or on the terrace and delight in a yummy selection of either sweet or savoury treats from a menu that changes daily to keep the guests interested. I especially loved the acai bowl, the avocado tartine and creole selection of daily local treats. The service is excellent and waiters visit you often with pastries, juices and chacuterie plates.
Lunch is best enjoyed at Soley, a poolside bar with a great selection of poke bowls and bento boxes accompanied by fresh coconuts or rum-based cocktails. By the way Seychelles are famous for their rum, you’ll find the local brand Takamaka in most shops, restaurants and bars on the island.
For dinner you are spoiled for choice – there is Italian, Japanese or Creole options to choose from, each more delectable than the other. I honestly can’t decide which one is my favourite as all experiences were wonderful.
The Lux Traveller Loves
Modern, fresh, beachy design of the suites
Exceptional dining
Excellent service
Splitting Hairs
The only draw back of the resort is a rocky beach. If you time at a windy time of the year the beach is suitable only for the strong swimmers and definitely not for young children. I heard that it’s not dangerous when the weather is completely still, but you’d have to pick your timing very well.
For beach lovers Mango House can organize daily visits to different beaches nearby but that might come with additional cost for the driver and no day beds.
All In All
Exceptional new hotel, with a great sense of style, superb dining and warm service.
Will I come back? Absolutely!
