Palais Hansen Kempinski Vienna – Luxurious Retreat On Ringstrasse

Palais Hansen seamlessly combines European charm, history and modern luxury.

The hotel gets its name from the famous architect who designed this glorious building back in 1873 for the World Exhibition – Theophil Edvard Hansen. In 2013 Kempinski group has acquired the building and ever since then it has been spoiling its guests with unsurpassed luxury that best hotels in the world are known for.

Exquisite suites with high ceilings and city views, stand out dining scene, excellent service and of course, great city location make Kempinski Vienna one of our favourites in town. The location is superb, on the famous Ring Road that encircles the historic city centre – within a 15 minute walk you’d find yourself next to St Stephen’s Cathedral, Opera House, museums and luxury boutiques.

Accommodation

Palais Hansen Kempinski Vienna boasts 98 rooms and 54 suites, all designed in the classic 1920s style with high ceilings and warm interiors prevailing beige and brown tones to soothe the eye. Some of the furniture pieces were designed by Claude Laville specially for the hotel and we loved various artworks throughout the hotel with the scenes from ballet to emphasize the cultural location we are in.

I had a pleasure of staying in a Ring Suite, 60 sq meters of pure luxury. This one bedroom suite has an elegant living room with a walnut study desk, big windows looking over Ringstrasse, separate bedroom with walk-in wardrobe, marble bathroom with a bath and shower.

It is a beautiful space for a romantic couple of young family while those travelling with bigger kids would be able to connect to another Ring Suite next door.

Dining

Dining is a real highlight of this hotel. Every day at Kempinski Vienna starts from a delicious buffet breakfast at Die Kuche Wein. It is without exaggeration, one of the best hotel breakfasts in Europe. Anything your heart desires is here starting from a selection of European breads, white and black, to cheeses, cold cuts, fruit, yogurts, cakes and hot dishes. It’s so good that you’d like to linger here longer, enjoying the atmosphere and the food.

For dinner you can’t miss Kempinski fine dining restaurant Edvard. It is definitely not just a hotel restaurant, it is a one Michelin star gourmet dining destination in Vienna. It is small, intimate and very yummy! Every dish here is a surprise, have a look at my posts on Instagram to see the creative dishes that are a celebration of nature’s best on a plate – colours, flavours and creativity.

At the start of your experience the chef comes over with a tray of fresh produce and you choose how many courses you’d like to have. The courses are not huge and each one is absolutely amazing, so we’d recommend to come hungry and go for the full experience. Master chef Thomas Pedevilla is officially one of the top 50 chefs in Austria, so Edvard is a must-try even if you are not staying in the hotel.

 Facilities

The Hotel has a lovely spa featuring Babor products but during my short stay I didn’t have a chance to experience it – leaving something for next time.

There is a also a Fitness centre for active guests and a swimming pool that is always welcome by families.

Splitting Hairs

All points of interest in Vienna are at least 15-minutes walk away, so even though you are very central you’ll need to walk a little to get to the hustle and bustle of Vienna. For me it was a bonus rather than a minus as I enjoyed the walk every day and it’s lovely to stroll through nearby neighborhoods, all so elegant.

The Lux Traveller Loved

We loved the spacious and refined suites with high ceilings and walk-in wardrobes. Really enjoyed daily breakfast and dinner at Edvard was an absolute stand out of my visit to Vienna.

All In All

Superb, modern yet historic, hotel in an excellent central location – I can’t wait to return!
