This little paradise is located in Santa Barbara, California. It is a gorgeous corner of the world, with mountains to one side, sea on the other and orange gardens and strawberry fields in between. It is also home to many of California’s rich and famous, with its close proximity to Los Angeles (only 1.5hr drive) and a secluded location.
San Ysidro Ranch, member of the Leading Hotels of the World, is an all-suite property with only 24 suites located in stand-alone cottages that dot the 24 acre property. Every suite ensures complete privacy for its guests and is designed for romance. This is a place where couple come to fall in love or re-discover each other, place that you’d come to hide from the rest of the world, where no worries will ever find you.
Here birds serenade you in the mornings, aroma of fruit trees perfumes the air you breathe and gentle sea breeze envelopes you in a playful embrace.
Suites are designed in chic country style with shady outdoor terraces. Many come with fireplaces and outdoor hot tubs and range between studios and two-bedroom villas.
We had a pleasure to experience a two-bedroom suite called the ‘Terrace”. Suites don’t have numbers, only names to remind you that is no ordinary hotel. ‘Terrace’ has two spacious and very comfortable bedrooms, each with a full bathroom.
Living room features a dining setting, leather lounge, complimentary mini bar and best of all – a fireplace. Antique furniture, rugs, plush cushions, canopy beds, porcelain lamps and artwork unique to each villa create an elegant, sophisticated atmosphere – a place you’d like to call home.
Dining
San Ysidro Ranch has a strong focus on dining. Previously it was a Relais & Chateaux property and they are famous for exquisite gourmet cuisine. Even if you are not staying at San Ysidro, dinner here is a must.
Fine-dining restaurant The Stonehouse is an ultimate venue for a romantic evening. Sit on a terrace under the bright stars, surrounded by candles and fairy lights. Heaters would keep you warm even on a cool night and the chef Matt Johnson will spoil you with his seasonal creations, many with a strong Italian influence. Most of the produce is sourced locally and is full of flavor. The wine list is equally impressive.
For a more casual night try Plow & Angel, a rustic garden restaurant, favourite amongst the locals. Try their famous mac’n cheese or award winning ribs. Perfect restaurant for those who enjoy hearty food and love to see and be seen.
Facilities
For those who like their holidays active there are lots of hikes in the neighbourhood. For those who choose to relax, there is a pretty swimming pool and a spa offering a selection of facial and body treatments.
Town centre is only a few minutes away by car so you could go exploring Santa Barbara and pretty Californian beaches.
