Fit To Promise

The Fullerton Hotel Sydney is a luxurious five start hotel located in one of the most beautiful spots in Sydney CBD. It stands proudly on Martin Place, occupying the historic GPO building.

The Fullerton Hotels & Resorts is a very respected Singaporean brand; you might know The Fullerton Hotel Singapore and The Fullerton Bay Hotel that represent the ultimate luxury in the Singapore’s hospitality scene.

I had a pleasure to experience the new hotel recently and here is a recount of what was a very enjoyable staycation.

Arrival

As we pulled up to the front entrance friendly porter has greeted us and taken care of the luggage and the car. Hotel manager was there to say ‘hello’ me on arrival and everyone in the hotel seemed to know my name within minutes. I love that personal touch, it totally changes the experience from ‘just another hotel stay’ to ‘feeling at home’.

The hotel has a very impressive atrium, a mix of modern luxury and historic architecture. GPO building is a heritage listed landmark that dates back to 1866. It’s sandstone facade stretches over 114 meters making it one of the largest sandstone buildings in Sydney.

But coming back to 2020, I have to mention that The Fullerton Hotel Sydney takes COVID safety very seriously. The property is COVID safe and all staff wear masks, request the use of hand sanitizer on arrival and take guests’ temperature before entering the hotel. Of course rooms go through specialised cleaning process to comply with the safety certification.

Suite Stay

I travelled with my family and we got very spoiled with a two-bedroom executive suite.  It is a very impressive, spacious suite filled with little luxuries – big floor to ceiling windows, views over the city, ensuites in every bedroom, coffee machine, fruit platter, spa bath with a view, Balmain toiletries and walk in wardrobe.

The suite is so big that you might get lost in it or find your kids playing hide and seek, there is plenty of room for that. I highly recommend this suite for families, while couples will love the same suite in a one-bedroom configuration.

Dining

I love hotel dining and was excited to try The Fullerton Hotel’s new restaurant The Place. It certainly didn’t disappoint us.

Meat lovers and those who enjoy Asian flavours have to experience dinner at The Place. ‘Must trys’ are Braised Wagyu Short Rib, Beef Rendang and Seafood Laksa. Add a touch of Singapore Sling into the mix and you could pretend that you are in Singapore. Sydney staycation with a flavor of Singapore. You are almost overseas!

Due to COVID, buffet breakfasts are not allowed at the moment (due yo change shortly I’d say) and The Fullerton Hotel Sydney is currently serving delicious Australian a-la-carte breakfast in the lobby lounge. I had their avocado smash every day; it is a very generous dish and a sumptuous one. Of course there are lots of other options for those who prefer something sweet or vice versa more filling. Everything was tasty and I would recommend having breakfast included in your stay so you could get pampered in the mornings.

Last but not least is the High Tea. You don’t have to stay in the hotel to experience it and I highly recommend it to all sweets lovers. The high tea is spectacular with a huge selection of gourmet treats, mini sandwiches, scones – everything is delicious and wonderful for the photos. It is also very generous and can be shared by a group of friends.

Facilities

First thing the hotel did when they opened was put in a modern gym for exclusive use of the hotel guests.

There is also a beautiful Club Lounge reserved for the Suite guests, but it is closed now due to COVID restrictions. Hopefully it re-opens soon.

The Lux Traveller Loves

I loved the spacious and luxurious suite

Very friendly, professional and personalized service

Impressive COVID safety procedures (we certainly felt very safe at the hotel)

Excellent approach to breakfast and delicious (and very Instagrammable) dinner at The Place

Historic feel of the building

Splitting Hairs

I would add a couple of vegetarian and vegan options to the restaurant menu as many of us seem to be converting to healthy living and veggie eating.

All In All

Hotel’s location is excellent – you have everything you could think of on your doorstep – bars, restaurants, clubs, shopping, theatres, museums, Botanical gardens, Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House – the whole of Sydney is within your reach without needing a car. It is an excellent hotel for both out of town visitors and Sydney-siders. I highly recommend experiencing The Fullerton Hotel Sydney for both couples and families.
